James R. Schmersahl, CPA -
Jim received a B.S. with an emphasis in Accounting from Quincy University. Jim works closely with business owners providing sophisticated audit, tax and business consulting services. His areas of practice concentration are manufacturing and distribution. Jim has assisted many businesses in successful business acquisitions or divestitures including assistance with transaction structure, business valuation and negotiations, and due diligence.

Prior to forming Schmersahl Treloar, he served as the senior manager for the audit and entreprenurial services group of an international (Big 8) public accounting firm.

Jim is currently an ad hoc member of the United Way Allocation Committee, having previously served a four-year stint as chair of the Illinois Allocation panel and two years as chair of the Elderly Services panel. Jim is a past president of the Institute of Management Accountants-St. Louis chapter and served as president of Confluence St. Louis (now Focus St. Louis) for two years. Jim is a member of the National Association of Valuation Analysts, Missouri Venture Forum, Institute of Management Accountants, as well as various national and state CPA societies. 

Jim enjoys business reading, Rams football (watching not playing), and crossword puzzles.

Julie C. Treloar, CPA -
Julie is a graduate of University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984 where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy. She has worked in both the audit and tax field, with the majority of her career in tax consulting and planning with closely held companies. She became a partner at Schmersahl Treloar & Co. in 1995 and is currently in charge of tax planning and Business Development services.

Prior to forming Schmersahl Treloar, she served as a tax manager for an international (Big 8) public accounting firm.


Julie is a member of the AICPA and the MSCPA. She has completed the Certification of Educational Achievement for "Tax Planning for Closely Held Companies" and served on various MSCPA committees at the state and local levels. Julie has many years of experience working with manufacturers, real estate developers, professional services, and small businesses of varying industries.

Julie is married with 2 children and enjoys spending time with family, reading, movies, music, and making scrapbooks in her spare time.

Her goals for the firm are to see us achieve our mission and create wealth for our clients by working to increase the value of their companies.
